Swiss Night at the Cologne Philharmony
Januar 1999
Once again the WDR Big Band, one of Germany's most
reputed radio big bands, prouved its universality in jazz. The
pieces were originally swiss folk- and alpin nature-songs, the
so-called Natur-jützli. These songs from Switzerland have been
converted to real Jazz by George Gruntz.

Alphorns can swing, believe it or not. The group of
men realizing this miracle is called Mytha. Mytha are four strong
blowing men: Hans Kennel, Marcel Huonder, Martin Roos and Richard
Hager.

Another strange thing in this concert were the Schönbächle
Sisters, who sang the vocal parts of De Sunnähälber,
De Villgauer, O mini Liäbä Bärge, Em Hans
sine and of the Final. They sang in the traditional
swiss way, which you will rarely find on jazz-concerts, but in the
alps.

The Swiss Night might be one of the most interisting
events of this new year 1999.

that you think differently. As I said before when I play, what I am
playing, the first thing I reach for is sound. If I get a good sound
Im well on my way.
